Why might you want (not need) the EMV for your business? A few reasons:
- Fraud and chargeback protection
- Security
- Customer Expectations
- The EMV Liability Shift
- your customer's bank if they did not issue an EMV card,
- your processor if they did not give you the option to accept EMV
- you if you choose not to accept EMV.
EMV is considered more secure than a traditional magnetic strip credit card. It is harder to clone, the chip data is constantly being modified, and the data is encrypted, etc. In addition getting sensitive data off the computer on to the the terminal can reduce PCI requirements.
Customer Expectations
As EMV devices become more and more prevalent, customers will grow accustomed to EMV payments (customer facing devices where they handle the payments portion of the transaction). In addition many of these devices support NFC and so as customers grow grow accustomed to payments on different platforms (smart phones, tablets, new mobile devices), you will be ready.
