How to handle Tips or Gratuities in RetailEdge

by RetailEdge Moderator » Fri May 25, 2007 5:05 pm

One way to handle Tips or Gratuities in RetailEdge Point of Sale Software is

    1. Setup a department for Tips or Gratuities
    2. Set the average margin for the Tips Department to 0
    3. Create an inventory item for the gratuity. Set it up as a Stock Type "Department SKU" with a $0 cost and $0 price and make it non-taxable.

Then you can sell the item as you normally would. When this item is sold, since it has a $0 price, RetailEdge will know that it needs a price at the time of sale and ask the clerk for the amount when being sold. The cost of this item will be calculated as the selling price since the margin is 0. So there won't be any profit shown on the sale of this item.

When you payout your tips at the end of the night you can do it through the RetailEdge payout mechanism. You can either create a payout id for each clerk and select the proper clerk (payout ID) when performing the Payout. Or you can create a Payout ID of Tips or Gratuity and then add a description of the Clerk ID or name. Both ways will allow you to track who the tips were paid out to.
