    Troubleshooting Hamachi VPN Issues

by RetailEdge Moderator » Mon Jun 06, 2016 8:07 am

To troubleshoot Hamachi VPN issues, first start the Hamachi client from the Desktop icon or by doing a Search for Hamachi from the Windows start menu.

If you are running an Island Workstation, if there is a problem with the connection, the Island button o nthe bottom of the main RetailEdge screen will say in red text: Island: ON (Error - Check Log). Pressing this button will tell you that there was a problem and ask you if you would like to open the Hamachi VPN Application. Press YES and RetailEdge will automatically try to start Hamachi.

If there is a problem starting Hamachi, you will see the following Self-Diagnosis screen.

If the screen identifies a problem with the Hamachi Service, then you should check to make sure the LogMeIn Hamachi Tunneling Engine is running. You can do this by pressing the Windows key and R key at the same time. Then type in the run dialog box "services.msc". You should then see the following screen:

Navigate to the LogMeIn Hamachi Tunneling Engine and select Start on the left hand side. Note: If you don't see a Start option it may mean that you are not running as an Administrator. You should exit out of Services and restart services.msc as an administrator.

If the Hamachi client starts normally, verify that the network's power is on. If the client is not on click the power button (highlighted in the yellow box).

If the Hamachi Client is network is powered on verify that the network is on (Green light), if it is not on (Grey) double click to turn on (See yellow box).

If the Network is powered you can see the other clients (depending on the network type) and their current state ( green = on, grey = off, blue=relayed tunnel).

If you see other network connections with greyed out connections you might not see other location's information. Check to see why these clients have not started. Hamachi should start automatically when you start your computer. However if you are not paying for Hamachi (only $30 per year), then Hamachi will not start automatically. To see if you have a paid version, you can look to the right side of the screen where it lists the number of active and allowable connections. Paid versions will say (X/16 or X/256). Unpaid versions will say X/5. If you see this and you want your network to start automatically you should contact LogMeIn.

In rare cases, Hamachi will look like it is working (green lights) but it is not for some reason connecting properly. We have created a fixer tool that will disconnect and reset the connection automatically.

You can download this utility here.
    Hamachi Fixer Batch File

Just download the application to your desktop. To run the utility, just right click the icon, choose Run as Administrator, and you should be all set.
