What happened to my Floating Decimal Point after the update?

by RetailEdge Moderator » Mon Jun 18, 2012 12:51 pm

As of 8.2.16 we have removed this the floating decimal feature to accommodate a number of other features that were added to the program including:

    1. VAT (Value Added Taxes where Tax is included in the price)
    2. Low price item discounting
    3. Gasoline or any other item that is sold at the partial cent level.

Since the floating decimal only allowed users to go to 2 places after the decimal, it had to be removed to accommodate this new feature.

We did not make this change lightly and tried our best to make everyone aware that this change was happening through our Facebook page, through e-mails and our Sasha Session trainings about 2 months before the update.

We use RetailEdge here and we found that even though it took awhile to get used to, it actually is faster at the point of sale. So when you are making a price change or someone gives you cash for $10, you don't have to type in 1000 to get $10, only 10. Also if you are typing in a price of $10.50, you only need to put in the $10.5 and so this is the same amount of keystrokes as before. A little bit of old dog new tricks but we think it will actually be better in the long run.
