    What is it?

    RetailEdge Island is RetailEdge's mobile POS solution. RetailEdge Island allows you to manage your store even when you are off-line or away from your store. RetailEdge's Island synchronization engine allows you to make changes to your data remotely even when you are disconnected from the internet. When you get re-connected the newest changes get moved between your Island and your business.

    How Do I Setup An Island


    The RetailEdge Island workstation is installed by High Meadow Business Solutions. However you must have the following items in place before the Island workstation can be installed:

    1. Purchase the Island Workstation. If you already have a RetailEdge client workstation this can be converted into an Island Workstation.

    2. Be on Silver Plan Software Maintenance Plan (SMP).

    3. Have internet access on both the main computer and the island computer.

    4. Install RetailEdge client/server on Island Computer. If you are unsure whether the Island workstation has the server installed, you can check this in Windows by selecting Run from the Windows Start menu, type in Services.msc and check that retailedge_server is in the list of services.

    5. Make sure that the Island Computer is working from local data by choosing Settings | Server Connection from the Tools menu item and setting the IP to 127.0.0.1.

    6. Choose Remote Support from the RetailEdge Help menu on BOTH the Island Computer and the Main Computer. Or open your web browser on each machine to www.logmein123.com. This will then prompt you for a 6-digit code.

    7. Call High Meadow to install the Island Synchronization Engine (RECON 4) and start the Island synchronization.

    After High Meadow has installed the Island synchronization engine, you will have to transfer the backup file from the main computer to the Island workstation AND restore it into Island Computer.

    Setting Up An Island Network

    RetailEdge Island will work in a LAN (Local Area Network) if you have two computers connected together in your store. If you unplug your island computer from your network you can continue to work on your RetailEdge data while you are disconnected. As soon as you plug back in either wirelessly or with a cable, RECON synchronization engine will start synching between the island and the store's computer.

    If you want to be able to connect to your data from anywhere (hotspots/home/mobile sales) with real-time access to all your store's data, then you will want to setup a WAN (Wide Area Network) with a VPN (Virtual Private Network). A good VPN software is LogMeIn Hamachi and you can find more information at www.logmein.com. We do not provide any support or installation services for any VPN software or hardware. If you are planning on using the island in a VPN environment, you should have the VPN up and running before the Island installation process so that we can properly test the Island in this environment.

    We recommend that you setup RetailEdge Island with the VPN form real-time access. Or if you are going to be periodically connecting to your LAN that you do not stay disconnected for long periods of time. Being disconnected for long periods of time can lead to cross-edits and may create unexpected results.

    Checking the Synchronization Status

    You can check the status of the Island synchronization at any time with either the RECON Log Viewer Utility or the RetailEdge Island Log Viewer.

    From the Island Workstation


    To check the synchronization from a particular Island workstation:

    1. Choose RetailEdge Island Log Viewer from the Tools | RetailEdge Island menu item.

    This will display a log of all the synchronizations that have occurred from the Island.

    From the Store

    To check the synchronization of any Island workstations from the store open the Recon Log Viewer utility program. This utility is located on the computer the Island is synchronizing with and is usually found in the c:\program files\high meadow business solutions\recon 4 folder. This will let you see all RetailEdge Islands and also the main store's RetailEdge database synchronizing with the master database.
