Yes. Any tablet or laptop that will run at a resolution of 1024 x 768 or greater and Windows will work. We have been waiting for the prices on these devices to come down and so have not really had a good solution until now. At the most recent NRF (National Retail Federation) show in New York, Dell was displaying their Inspiron Duo.

The Inspiron Duo is a full Windows 7 machine that has a price point of only $549. It has a 10.1" Display and will allow you to use the device as a tablet with a touchscreen or as a laptop with a keyboard. The device also has an optional stand that will allow it to be used as a display.

Things you can do with this device?

1. Mobile POS. Using the Inspiron Duo and RetailEdge's touchscreen you can walk the floor with your customer and actually ring in sales through RetailEdge. Since this device is a full Windows 7 machine, RetailEdge can actually process sales with this device. Or if you prefer, you can create a Sales Quote for the customer so that they can proceed up to the checkout to complete their sale.

2. Mobile Physical Inventory. Walk around your store and actually view your inventory quantities and availability and make real time changes to your inventory. Also using RetailEdge's PICs (Physical Inventory Control) system you can easily create a file of inventory items and changes to be made for cycle counts, annual or periodic physical inventory counts.

3. If you want added functionality like the ability to scan an item, you can simply attach a USB scanner to it. The Inspiron Duo also has built in Bluetooth so you can attach other devices you might want. Remember if you are doing credit card processing using a Bluetooth device you should use encrypted technology. RetailEdge supports encrypted swipes if you are using PPI Paymover. Also if you are using a wireless device and processing credit cards you should be aware of and follow PCI recommended requirements. 4. The optional audio stand will allow you to keep the device mounted in a conspicuous location and use it for promotions and advertising. Since it is a full Windows device it will support things like Flash and PowerPoint presentations.
