Why are deleted items showing up on my Sales Screen

The issue you are seeing is just the way RetailEdge works. The sales screen works as follows:

When entering an item in the Find Item box on the Sales Screen, RetailEdge will automatically search the inventory fields in the following order to find the item:

    1. Item ID (RetailEdge price label barcode).
    2. Stock Number.
    3. Current Find By Criteria as listed in the Find By box.
    4. List ID
    5. UPC1
    6. UPC2
    7. Alias ID
    8. Package ID

If an exact match is found in any of the above listed fields, then RetailEdge will stop the search and add the item to the Sales Screen. If an exact match is not found, RetailEdge will go to the Find By criteria listed in Find By box and perform a partial match search. Partial searches look for text matches from the beginning of the inventory field. If the Interior Pattern Match checkbox on the Find Item(s) screen is checked then RetailEdge will search for the Look For text in any part of the inventory field.

In addition, if RetailEdge finds an exact pattern match on a deleted item AND no other active item is found AND only one deleted item was found, then RetailEdge will enter the item into the sales screen. This allows people to scan in barcodes for items that might have been deleted and someone comes to the counter with a tagged item that has the deleted SKU, ItemID, UPC, etc. But this only happens under the very limited circumstances and allows clerks to be able to sell without thinking an item that is tagged but may have been deleted for whatever reason.

If for instance you typed in ABC which was an exact pattern match for a SKU that has been deleted. We are assuming that someone has brought a tag up with this SKU and they were scanned. If you find that this is happening with some of your items and you don't want it to happen, then you should pull the item into the sales screen, then double click on the item and change the stock number to XXABC or something similar. Then go into your inventory and re-delete the item. Then the lookup won't find exact matches for ABC and will do the partial matches searches you are looking for.
