How Do I Setup RetailEdge to Work with Multiple Drawers

Certain businesses need the ability to setup multiple drawers so that different clerks can be responsible for particular drawers. To do this in RetailEdge, you need to do the following.

    1. Purchase a receipt printer that has the ability to pop more that one drawer. For instance Star and Epson receipt printers can be connected to MMF drawers with either a drawer 1 or drawer 2 cable.
    2. Copy the Device Definition for the receipt printer you are using in RetailEdge by choosing Devices from the Tools menu and pressing the Add button. RetailEdge devices by default are setup to open Drawer #1.
    3. On the new Device Definition editor, set the drawer pop on the Cash Drawer tab to the proper setting for Drawer 2. Call the new device something like Star TSP100 Drawer #2.
    4. Setup RetailEdge with a new workstation from the Tools|Settings|Workstations menu item.
    5. Create a new folder called something like RetailEdge Register X and then copy all of the files from the standard RetailEdge installation folder (typically c:\program files\high meadow business solutions\retailedge 8.0) with the exception of the server folder into the Register X folder.
    6. Edit the retailedge.ini file in the Register X folder. Then edit the [General] section and set the RegID to the register ID of the workstation you created in Step 4.
    7. Create a shortcut for the RetailEdge.exe file in the Register X folder. When someone double clicks on this shortcut, RetailEdge will start as the new Register.
    8. Edit the Workstation settings for the new Register and set the receipt printer to the receipt printer that will pop drawer 2.

Now you have essentially created an environment with two workstations on one machine. One will activate Drawer 1 when a sale is processed, the other will activate Drawer 2. If you need to have more security and have Clerks log in an out for security purposes, this should be done through Windows. You can setup each user to only have access to the particular desktops and have only the Icon that runs their drawer showing on their desktop or folder that you allow access to.
