    limited description field

    by metanoia » Sat May 13, 2006 2:54 pm

in 7.5 it only allows 25 characters in the inventory item description field. Is there a way to increase this to say 200 characters, without having to upgrade to 8.0 which does support longer item descriptions?

The RetailEdge 7.5 User Interface will only allow up 25 characters for the Description field. However, the table structure itself will allow up to 50 characters.

One way around the UI limitation is to update your descriptions using a REDI import (update) of your inventory information. This is a bit complicated but it would work.

That said, you should consider upgrading to RetailEdge 8.0. The new program has a lot of new features that you will find appealing, including longer fields for just about all data entry fields.

    hi,

ok, I guess 8.0 might be the way to go.

How do longer character descriptions work with a tape style receipt printer? does it print out entire description of each line item, or just the first line of the description for each item on the receipt?

Also, in regards to quickbooks - is quickbooks pro 2004 compatible with 7.5 and 8.0?

    thanks

The tape style receipt in RetailEdge 8.0 is smart enough to wrap the description onto additional lines (actually same goes for the full page receipt as well).

RetailEdge 7.5 and 8.0 interact with QuickBooks differently. 7.5 uses an IIF export file which is then imported, by the user, into QuickBooks. RetailEdge 8.0 uses QB's API to write directly to the QB data file.

Both 7.5 and 8.0 should be able to work with QuickBooks Pro 2004 (and newer).
