Tip No. 026 - Using Inventory Aliases

by RetailEdge Moderator » Wed Aug 06, 2014 6:38 pm

    What are Aliases?

RetailEdge's inventory allows you to create aliases for each item. Item aliases are a pretty powerful sales tool that allow you to:

Provide sales screen item grouping. For instance if you have a number of different Gift Card items (G10, G25, G50, G100 etc.) in your inventory, and you associate an alias of G to the items, when you type in G on the Sales Screen, RetailEdge will display a list of all Gift Cards in your inventory and allow you choose the one you are selling.

Assign Multiple UPCs to an item. RetailEdge has two UPC fields in the item editor. But sometimes that is not enough and aliases allow you to assign as many UPCs as you want to a single item. Say, for example, you are selling $1.00 greeting cards and the card manufacturer has a different UPC for each card. If you don't want to have a different SKU for each gift card, you can simply create one greeting item and assign each manufacturer's UPC to the item's alias. Then when you scan any of those manufacturer's UPCs, RetailEdge will sell the same greeting card SKU each time.
