Tip No. 023 - Are you treating your data badly?

by RetailEdge Moderator » Fri Jul 25, 2014 1:06 pm

RetailEdge is designed so that you have total control of your data. It is your data and you should have access to it at all times. You can't afford to have your systems go down when the internet is unaccessible or just slow . However, we find many people are not treating their data well and this can lead to problems.

    What you can do?

Here are three simple things you can do to make sure your data stays in good shape.

    1. Buy a UPS. Buying a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) is the simplest thing to do. This will make sure that power to your computer (and RetailEdge) is maintained during power surges, brown and blackouts.
    2. Shut your computer down properly. If you just push the computer's off button while RetailEdge is running it can have the same effect as a power outage.
    3. Watch for problem signs. If you see signs of other problems on your computer (pre-mature shut-downs, corrupt files, programs not working, etc.) this might be an indication that your computer needs replacing or upgrading or just some maintenance. Computers are inexpensive. You can get a new computer for about $300. How much is your time and data worth?

Oh yeah and again make backups. We know we keep saying it, but it is simple to do, can be automated and when you need it...
