Anthony Cares: Speed up Zebra Printers, Windows 10 News, and Windows 7 Warning

Technology Wrap Up - Beginning of 2017

Greetings, this week I wanted to fill you all in on what Microsoft has released over the past few weeks and other technology news that may effect your business.

    Windows 7 users:

If you are running Windows 7, Microsoft appears to be pushing you to plan your migration off of it sooner rather than later. Microsoft has released several articles calling Windows 7 outdated and dangerous. While Microsoft is required to provide security updates until January 2020, you may want to start your migration plans soon.

    Windows 10 users:

Coming in the next couple of months Microsoft will release an update for Windows 10 called the Creators Update. What this update will do:

    - Give you greater control over Windows Updates
    - Be able to defer installing a Windows update
    - Choose to opt out of allowing Windows from updating the Device Drivers

Some of the biggest pains that we hear from you out there is Windows updates are installing at the worst possible times, as well as Windows updating hardware drivers (Zebra label printers). While we do have a solution for the Zebra issues if you have a LP2824 plus or ZD410 (click here for that), those of you with older hardware were out of luck… Until now (err…when the update comes out).

Unfortunately if you are a Windows 10 Home user you will not get these features. However one new helpful change for Win10 Home users is you will be able to set up to 18 hours of "Active Hours" -- so Windows 10 won’t restart for updates during those hours.

    Zebra Printer users:

Speaking of Zebra, did you know that on both the ZD 410 and the LP 2824 plus you can increase the speed in which the labels print so long as you are using the ZPL driver. If you go to the printing preferences, in the options tab you should see a setting for speed from the drop down. Go ahead and select the fastest speed that your printer can handle.

    One Last Reminder:

Are you backing up? I know we drill on this one a lot but there was a drastic increase in the amount of businesses and organizations that were a victim of Ransomware. With a good back up policy in place you can help prevent yourself from falling victim to this horrible form of cyber crime. Please read http://www.retailedge.com/phpBB/viewtop ... =13&t=3351
