    Hamachi Updating IP Addresses

by RetailEdge Moderator » Tue Nov 13, 2012 11:51 am

For all of our customers using LogMeIn Hamachi for their Virtual Private Network (VPN), LogMeIn is going to be making a change to Hamachi that will effect customers who are using RetailEdge in a multi-location environment (RECON) or RetailEdge Island.

This from LogMeIn: As of November 19, 2012, Hamachi clients will have their virtual IP addresses changed from 5.x.x.x to 25.x.x.x. This change will have no effect on your Hamachi networks.

Although this change will have no effect on your your network, RetailEdge and RECON will be effected since they will be pointing to the old 5.x.x.x IP.

To allow RetailEdge to use the new IP once the change to Hamachi has been made you will need to do the following:

    RECON Customers

Edit the Server Settings to allow the new IP range to access the server

    1. On your main machine with the RECON server you will need to navigate in Windows Explorer to C:\Program Files (x86)\High Meadow Business Solutions\RECON_4\Server Folder.
    2. Run the RECON_Control_8_4 program. Note: If you are running Vista or Windows 7 or 8 you will need to right click the ICON and Run as Administrator. Otherwise these settings will not get saved.
    3. Choose the Edit menu item and on the Edit Settings form press the RECON Server tab.
    4. In the Add IP Address box type 25.*
    5. Press the Save button to save the changes.
    6. Restart this machine

Edit the Client Settings to allow the clients (locations) to access the RECON server using the new IP address of the server.

    1. On your main machines with the RECON client (remote locations) you will need to navigate in Windows Explorer to C:\Program Files (x86)\High Meadow Business Solutions\RECON_4\Client Folder.

    2. Open the retailedge.ini (configuration settings) file.

    3. Edit the RECON_URL line to use the server's new Hamachi IP. For example if your RECON_URL line looks like RECON_URL=https://5.1.2.3:12010/RECON_Request then just change the 5.1.2.3 portion to the new 25 IP address (RECON_URL=https://25.1.2.3:12010/RECON_Request. If the IP on this line is 127.0.0.1 you should not change the IP. You can check your server's new Hamachi IP by clicking on the Hamachi icon on your computer's system tray (down by the clock in the lower right hand corner of your computer's screen or by running Hamachi from the Windows Start Button program. Note: If you are running Vista or Windows 7 or 8 you will need to either Run notepad as an administrator or you will need to save the file to the Desktop first. Then manually copy and overwrite the file in the C:\Program Files (x86)\High Meadow Business Solutions\RECON_4\Client Folder.

    4. Restart this machine.

    Island Customers

    Edit the Island Workstation Settings

    1. On your RetailEdge Island edit the Workstation Settings by choosing Workstations from the Tools|Settings menu item.
    2. Modify your current workstation and press the RetailEdge Island tab and change the IP in Island Server Path box. This may be just a change from 5.x.x.x to 25.x.x.x but if you are unsure you can check your server's new Hamachi IP by clicking on the Hamachi icon on your computer's system tray (down by the clock in the lower right hand corner of your computer's screen or by running Hamachi from the Windows Start Button program.

You can find more information on the Hamachi changes at http://b.logme.in/.

Another one of the Hamachi changes you should be aware of is that unless a computer is part of a paid network, you need to be logged in and running the Hamachi UI on your desktop in order to allow it to function. If no user is logged on to the computer then – even though the Hamachi service or daemon is active in the background it won't go online in any networks that it may belong to.

This might not effect you but if you are not currently part of a paid network you might want to consider it. It is only $29/year for up to 32 connections. Pretty inexpensive for what you get.
