Shown below is a typical setup for a single
store/single location business. The image shows a two register system with a
back-office computer. The image also shows some of the options you might want
in a typical store including barcode label printers, physical inventory control
devices and high speed internet access. As with any RetailEdge point of sale
software system you can start with only the software on a single computer and
then add-on as your business grows.
Note: It is our recommendation that
the data server be on the primary register machine. The simple reason is that
if the network goes down for any reason, the client on that machine can
continue to access the data and you can continue to make sales. There are
reasons why you might not want this configuration and internal networks are
more stable and reliable than they used to be. However, by not having the data
on the main register you run the risk that you will not be able to ring sales
in on this machine.
