    Does RetailEdge Track Services

by RetailEdge Moderator » Tue Jun 05, 2007 12:34 pm

RetailEdge can track services. Each inventory item in RetailEdge must be assigned a stock type. Non-Stock items are items without specific quantities. Examples would include repair services and labor type items. Nonstock items might also be used for rental items if you are not interested in tracking the rental inventory quantities. Nonstock item inventory quantities are NOT reduced or increased when sold or received.

RetailEdge can also handle work orders that typically include services through the Open Order function. Open orders are typically used for simple deposit taking and hold the order open without processing the sale but allocate the inventory, until the final deposit is taken. Open orders can be modified as many times as you want (to add more service and parts to an order for example) until the final payment is taking.

One twist to service that you should be aware of is that some businesses (farm supplies, garden equipment, bike shops, etc.) might want to track service on a particular piece of equipment. If you are interested in doing this you should:

    1. Set up the piece of equipment as an individual item in RetailEdge. To do this you might want to include a serial number into the SKU to make it unique.
    2. When service is performed on that piece of equipment, include the item on the sale with a quantity of 0. This will keep all service on this item associated with the individual item.
    3. To check the service history on an item, simply view the item on the Inventory Manager and the history off the item will be instantly displayed on the lower panel.
