Installed RetailEdge to D: Drive. Now RetailEdge Won't Run

by RetailEdge User » Thu Jan 26, 2006 2:04 pm

I installed RetailEdge to my D: Drive (Windows is installed on the D: Drive in D:\Windows). Now RetailEdge wil not start.

I get the following error message:

"Error: Can't start program. Problem while reading settings file (WKS)."

The RetailEdge Data Server, when installed, expects to find it's data in particular folders.

RetailEdge installs with three pre-installed databases:

    1) RetailEdgeData_Demo
    2) RetailEdgeData
    3) RetailEdgeData_Train

The default folder paths for these databases are:

      "C:\Program Files\High Meadow Business Solutions\RetailEdge 8.0\Server\Data_Demo"
      "C:\Program Files\High Meadow Business Solutions\RetailEdge 8.0\Server\Data"
      "C:\Program Files\High Meadow Business Solutions\RetailEdge 8.0\Server\Data_Train"

If one installs RetailEdge into the D: Drive, or any non-default location, then RetailEdge will most likely have problems finding it's data.

To fix the problem (i.e. to tell RetailEdge where to find its data), follow these steps:

    1) Start Windows Explorer.

    2) Navigate to the "C:\Program Files\High Meadow Business Solutions\RetailEdge 8.0\Server" folder - or the equivalent based on where you installed the program.

    3) Start the RetailEdge_Status application.

    4) Select Tools / Administration / Set Databases from the main menu.

    5) From the Server Databases form you need to edit the "Server Folder" path for each of the databases.

Once changed, RetailEdge should now be able to start.

BTW: This solution is also a appropriate in case one wants to store RetailEdge Data in a special location or folder. This can be useful for security or backup purposes.
