Anthony Cares: Importing Vendors Price List Using CSV Import

    by Anthony » Thu Sep 22, 2016 11:15 am

Last week we went over how to manipulate your data, this week lets go over how to take outside information and bring that in.

    1. First lets take this example file, it is in the .xls format which is not compatible with RetailEdge so that would need to be changed to the .csv format (Please see Anthony Cares... Editing Data in Excel/LibreOffice)

    Image

    2) Next Strip out Header info as that is not CSV compatible and add in information that is relevant to RetailEdge.

Please note the new headers, the addition of a Taxable column and the consolidation of the vendors 3 columns for Style, Color and size to create the Stock Number in RetailEdge. Doing this makes it a lot easier to import into RetailEdge.

    3) Next let’s import this updated file into RetailEdge, Go to Tools | Import

    4) On the Import Utility Window select Next

    Image

    5) On the Import type Window Select Inventory (CSV) and Next

    Image

    6) Select the File that you created using the file folder then verifying the Import Type

Inventory: Add new Records only (Quantity set to Zero) – Use this if this New Product you are looking to add from the Vendor

Inventory: Update/Replace existing records only (not quantity). – This is incredibly useful if you want to update your Inventory with new pricing from a Vendor.

(From here you can follow the steps from Anthony Cares… Using the CSV Import to Update your Inventory).

Select Next when you are ready to proceed.

    7) Now it is time to play the mapping game. Under the CSV Field Name, use the drop downs to select the Header from the CSV file to match what RetailEdge needs once this is done select next.

    After:

    * Note that the Price was and the Price levels I am using the same header, if you are using price levels on the file you created you would need to have a column and Header for each price level:

    8) Select the Start Import Process when you are ready.
