As a follow up to the
Upgrade to Windows 10 post, some of you have seen your devices using unsigned drivers that are not properly installing. This problem can be difficult to diagnose because most of the time it appears that the driver installs, but ultimately nothing happens (silent failure). For those of you who don't know what an unsigned driver is, you can check out
this post from Microsoft.*
Luckily, there is a way to get unsigned drivers to install on your system without calling Technical Support. Simply follow the steps below:
Select
Start |
Settings |
Update & Security |
Recovery
The system will restart and you will get a blue window.
Select |
Troubleshoot |
Advanced options |
Startup Settings | and select
Restart
When the Blue Startup Settings window loads,
select option 7.
Disable driver signature enforcement.
And that's it! Your system should now boot as normal and you should be able to install the unsigned driver for your device.
*Note: What the Microsoft post is trying to say, is basically Windows is trying to protect you from installing bad software. In the process of them doing so, sometimes good software (AKA your drivers) get caught in the middle. As long as you get your drivers from the manufacturer you are typically okay to go.
