Anthony Cares... Windows 10 Free Upgrade Ends Soon

    by Anthony » Thu Jun 02, 2016 4:27 pm

Just wanted to send out a PSA letting everyone running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 that the free upgrade to Windows 10 expires July 29th 2016. You can check out that announcement here .

Should you upgrade to 10? While we here in the office like Windows 10 and have used it for over a year, we feel it is a matter of personal preference.

RetailEdge works great on Windows 10. The only issues we have seen from the support side have been hardware driver issues. It would be best to check with the manufacturers of your devices to see if they are compatible with Windows 10.

Here are a couple of links to some popular POS device manufacturers:

    Zebra
    Star
    Epson

If you are using Serial or parallel USB adapters, you will also want to check with the manufacturer of those adapters for compatibility.

    Some know issues have been:

Zebra printers losing their driver configurations. We have a write up on our forum with how to configure the device here.

Windows assigning the default printer. We have a write up here.

***Note: Most of these hardware issues are easily resolved or are one-time Windows upgrade issues. Our service department can help you troubleshoot your Windows 10 upgrade driver issues (for a small fee). You can shoot us an email at support@retailedge.com or leave us a voicemail at 802-549-4617.

Before doing any upgrading make sure you backup your data! See how in my last post here.

Here is a link to our forum post on how to prevent Windows 10 from updating your device driver automatically.
