    Can RetailEdge Support Different Languages?

RetailEdge is written over a non-unicode Database. So in order to get Chinese or Arabic characters to show in descriptions, you need to do the following:

    1. Change your Windows location settings. (Administrative tab in Language settings: Change System Locale). This will allow you to have non-english language (double byte characters, e.g., simplified Chinese).

Windows is allowing this but is doing some sort of translation. But it seems to work pretty well and will allow you to perform field searches. So you can setup your descriptions with English/Chinese/Arabic descriptions. The description field will allow you to have 250 characters and so you can get a lot of information in there.

If you are going to do this, then you should put some constant character in between the english (:,/ etc) and other language so that if you want to move it, an SQL query can be written to do this. This field would be searchable as well if you have a pinyin/Chinese character keyboard installed. You should try it and see how it works with one inventory item first.

Obviously RetailEdge is written for the English speaking market. And so our help files and text labels on receipts etc. are all in english. You can open the help file at http://www.retailedge.com/help and if you are using Google Chrome, just right click the page and tell it to translate the page into whichever language you want.

In addition as of Version 8.2.47 we have the ability to have international receipts and customized receipts in order to support our international customers.
