What's the difference between the new punch card discount rules and the Buy X, Get Y for Z% rule?

As of Version 8.2.43, we now support the punch card (coffee card/membership card) type discounting. Although this is similar to our other discount rules for Buy X Get Y for Z%, there are a couple of major differences.

    1. the punch card type of discount applies to more than the current sale. If we look at a coffee shop type application, a customer might have purchased 5 coffees in the past week, so RetailEdge has to be smart enough to scan the customer's sales history to see how many coffees have been purchased since the last "free" discount was applied. The traditional discount rule does not have to do this.

    2. since a punch card is associated with a particular customer, the punch card needs to be a customer and inventory list discount type. This means for this type of discount you need to have a customer associated with the sale.

This type of discount can be pretty powerful and can be used for more than just coffee shops. Food-of-month clubs, gym memberships or automobile service programs are a few that come to mind.

In addition you can couple this with Store Credit - Issued at POS items or recurring billing further enhance your membership programs.
