Privledges for Clerks

Hello
I would like to allow my clerks to put items on sale but I would like to know if they are changing inventory. Is there a way to allow them to edit specific fields in inventory like price, general but not quantity? It doesn't look like it. Maybe someone has some suggestions?

There is no way to limit access to specific fields in RetailEdge (other than not viewing costs in the Inventory Manager). If you want to make direct edits to inventory items, you really should lock this down to only a few clerks or higher level managers. Then if you want to make changes to inventory prices, you can do this through a simple CSV Import. This will not make any changes to inventory quantities.

This does beg the question, why you are doing price changes directly to items in inventory. Most of the time price changes are done through imports (if you have a large number of changes or maybe updating a vendor catalog) or pricing is updated when you receive in new items to reflect increases in vendor costs.

But let us know a little more about what you are trying to do and we might be able to better help you out.

We will change the price, not the suggested price for sale items on the register so when they ring up they will turn pink. We then know that an item is already on sale, they don't have to pay attention to all the signs around the store or if the item has a special sticker on it. Not sure what to do with the importing option. Maybe that would be a better way to update costs. I also have had concerns when we get items at a sale price for one order but not another. I figure it isn't a big deal so just ignore these changes. It would be awesome to be accurate. I sometimes feel I have to give that up for ease of use.

I notice that there are different price levels. Not sure if we can input sale/markdowns at the time we create the item in inventory. Once we do that not sure how to tell the POS to use which price level. I have not researched the forums for this topic so if you could point me in the right direction that would be awesome. I just got my gopro! so I am hoping to put together a few training videos. Let me know if there is anything specific you would think would be helpful. If I can do it I will consider making that.

Pricing levels are good for certain businesses especially where you have significantly different margins in different departments. However, you might want to consider setting up some discount rules. This can be easier to manage and turn off and on.

The discount rules can be accessed from the Inventory menu item.
