In the past two weeks we've noticed that many of our regular priced items are turning purple when we add them to a sale. I thought it only did this if the item was discounted?

I've checked all of the settings for these items in the inventory manager and made sure that there was no discount rule applied to the item

Good question. RetailEdge will turn a line item on a sales screen to a different color if you are returning an item (red) or discounting an item (magenta).

The way that RetailEdge calculates a discount is by comparing the selling price (Price 1 usually) to the Suggested Retail price in inventory. So the first thing that I would check is that the Suggested Retail price of your items is not different from your Price 1. The line item on both sales screens should indicate that a discount is being taken and list the discount percentage.

Many people elevate the Suggested Retail price to print Was/Now or Their/Our price labels. Also they want to be able to show an implied discount when selling the item(s).

If you are selling non-entered items by entering 0 on the sales screen, RetailEdge will calculate a discount based on the first price entered into the sales screen. For instance if you enter a price of $100 and then change the price to $90, RetailEdge uses the initial price to calculate the discount.

I went and checked everything again and sure enough the suggested retail price was set to 0.00. Now sure how this happened since whenever we enter items the price gets copied into all of the boxes. Just need to make sure that the employees are entering things properly.

I was finally able to reproduce this issue once I entered Price 1 and then changed the suggested retail after.

Good to hear. I am not sure how someone would set it to zero either and you are correct that RetailEdge should autofill pricing if you have this option turned on.

In your case the color change would have been only to identify it on the sales screen, since RetailEdge would allow you to see the price increase, but on price increases the negative discounts don't show on the customer receipt.
