There is not currently another accounting program that we integrate with directly. We do periodically get requests to integrate to other accounting software. But they are very infrequent. One that comes to mind is Peachtree. If you have one in mind please let us know. Also what will also help is if the software you are trying to integrate to has a API (Application Programming Interface). Quickbooks has one that allows us to talk directly to their data. In lieu of an API if the accounting software has an import file format that we can use that is also good.

We also have one customer who has created his own links to Great Plains software using the ODBC driver for the database RetailEdge uses. But I suspect that this integration is pretty specific to how they use the program.

A few things to bear in mind. Although integration sounds nice, I would say the people who use the integration are in the minority. If you have employees who do everything properly and you closing is correct every time, great. However in reality employees make mistakes. If you make a mistake in RetailEdge and export to QB the mistake exports out too.

Many users have an accountant that comes in periodically to do the books. You can generate the same information that flows to QB as a big end of month report that will show all the account adjustments (about 11 or 12) and give these to your accountant. Easy.

But let us know what you are looking for and if you can get us any integration documents for the software you are interested in using that would help too.

We just bought another copy of RE as we now have two retail stores. We're currently using QB but began looking at "GnuCash" which is a free accounting SW package to see if additional RE data could be retained on the accounting side.
RE has great detail data but the hooks to QB doesn't even use it. We only get a total block of sales for a day. No customers, no items, etc. We feel QB is overkill in many respects but is severly lacking in others. However when looking at exporting sales data from RE to an alternate accounting package RE doesn't include the taxes so we have a dilemma.
Thoughts, suggestions?

I don't believe it does. I did an export from sales just to see what an alternate accounting package would see for a sales income transfer from RE and there was no tax column shown. The columns (fields) were: Sal_Ticket, Inv_Sku, Inv_Desc, Sal_Quan, Sal_Items_Price_Unit, Sal_Items_Price_Ext, Sal_Items_Cost_Unit, Sal_Items_Cost_Ext, Sal_Items_Retail_Unit, Sal_Items_Retail_Ext, Sal_Items_Taxable, Clerk_Name, Dept_DepartID, Vend_VendorID

The Sal_Items_Taxable is simply a true/false field but there's no numeric values.

Ok. I see. You can try a couple of different things.

1. You can do the export as a REDI file. The export you are doing is showing the line items. The REDI will show the sales header information which is where the tax would go.

2. Or you can print a closing report or summary closing report for a given date range and export this to a CSV file. The closing report is really where the information for an accounting program flows from.
