Is there any method or procedure to process the sale of mutiple items as a unit? This constitutes an assembly rather than one product. Specifically the issue is that a box/basket contains several unique items (products within the inventory database) and it is priced and sold as an assembly. How can RE process the box/basket sale?

Surely other retails have had this same issue and any help would be appreciated.

RetailEdge has the ability to do assemblies as you describe. However, we call them packages. To modify and create packages you would choose Packages from the Inventory menu item. Here is some additional information on how RetailEdge Packages work. This can also be found in your manual and in the program help.

Package Receipt Printing Models

Every package will list all of it's associated items on the sales screen. However you have the option to display the package differently on the customer's receipt. These package receipt printing models are:

Expand All Items and Show Each Item's Price

Lists all of the items on the sale as if they we manually entered on the sales screen. It can be helpful to create this type of package if you are selling many of the same things together (i.e., sales templates).

Print Package Description/Summary Only - One Line

Prints only the package name on the receipt. Package will remove all the associated items from inventory but the customer will only see the package name on the sales receipt.

Print Package Description/Summary and Itemize All Lines

Prints the package name on the receipt and each of its components. However, only lists the pricing for the package line. This type of package when you want the customer to see all of the items associated with the package but not the pricing (i.e., gift baskets, computer assemblies, etc.).

Package Pricing Models

There are two package pricing models you can use.

Set Item Pricing Based on Package Price

Will allow you to set a package price. The Unit Price of each of the items added to the package will be automatically adjusted to meet the total package price. RetailEdge will automatically discount the items by the same percentage.

Set Package Price Based on Item Pricing

The Package Price will be automatically be adjusted based on the Unit Prices entered on the Items tab.

Note: It can sometimes be useful to switch pricing models when creating a package. For instance if after creating a package based on a Package Price you want to adjust your item pricing to have a more consistent margin for the package you can switch to Set Package Based on Item Pricing and then adjust your Unit Prices.

We didn't even think to look under "packages" as we had assemblies in mind.

I've set up a package to sell some parts as a kit. When I input the list of part numbers, it does not deduct the parts from inventory. What is the procedure to have inventory deducted as your put together a kit?

Not sure what you are doing exactly, but our "kit" in RetailEdge is referred to as a package. The process of putting together a package consists of creating a package. You can see how to put together a kit here
