    Couple of suggestions/ideas....

    by Jared » Wed Jan 06, 2010 2:26 pm

    Hello,

My employees have given me a couple of ideas/feedback that would help make things a bit easier for them during sales.

    1. Would it be possible (for commission purposes) to somehow add a function for there to be a "clerk" and a "cashier" for a sale. What I mean by this is that sometimes we have employees who helped a customer with a sale and should earn the commission for the sale but they do not actually ring up the customer so it makes it very difficult to track who gets credit for the sale.
I dont know if a drop down box with the different clerks could be added that would be given the credit for a sale when it is rung up. This box would default to the person who is logged in so they would not have to change anything if the sale belonged to them.

    2. It would be really nice to have a way of making coupons so that when a customer brings in a coupon you don't either have to discount the item directly or use a generic SKU but then make it negative one on quantity for a coupon to be used.
We would love to see a system in Retail Edge be set up for helping make coupons and when you scan the coupon or bring up that description in the item list it automatically takes that value off of the sale rather than making it look like a return.
I'm not real sure how to make this work effectively but it would be really helpful if there were.

    Thanks,
    Jared

    Jared,

You already have the ability to track clerk sales. You just need to add Clerks and then turn on Clerk Tracking. The Clerks are added from the Tools Menu and the Clerk Tracking is done from the Location Settings Security Tab. Then any time anyone performs a sale they will be asked for a clerk ID. All sales can be filtered by Clerk ID and there is a Clerk Sales report that will tell you what amount of clerk sales for a given period.

Actually RetailEdge even goes one step further for those businesses that may have multiple clerks working a sale. You will see on the sales screen a drop down to change the default clerk ID (entered when starting the sale) to any clerk ID. This gives you line by line clerk tracking resolution if you need it.

Coupon discounting is something that you can do already with packages (assuming that you don't have to many to manage). What you can do is either setup a package ID with the ID of the coupon. The package can have either simply a discounted item or items on it or it can have an item and then a return item depending on what works best and how you you want to track these coupon discounts. You might use the negative approach if you wanted to track how many coupons were actually brought in and this can be a good way to track advertizing effectiveness. But up to you.

With the new touchscreen Sales Screen you can setup a page or two of coupon items, to make it easier for the clerks to enter these coupons when they come in. The use of the touchscreen sales screen does not preclude scanning items like you normally do, but it does give you some nice added functionality. You should give it a try when you get a chance.

    Hope this helps.
