How do I troubleshoot Credit Card Processing Problems?

    1. Determine whether RetailEdge is communicating properly with PCCharge. To do this open PCharge and swipe the card directly in PCCharge.
    a. PCCharge works. Then check the PCCharge settings in RetailEdge and make sure they are correct. If you feel the PCCharge settings in RetailEdge are correct, then you might have a configuration issue with your magstrip reader. RetailEdge needs to see all track information as a continuous stream. Many magstrip readers can be configured to have carriage returns in the middle of tracks or strip some of the track information. PCCharge can sometimes handle these programmed swipers where RetailEdge can't.
    b. PCCharge does not work. If it does not work in PCCharge, go to step 2.

    2. Determine whether there is a hardware (swiper) problem. To do this manually enter the card in RetailEdge.
    a. Manual entry works. You probably have a hardware swiper/configuration problem. If you have another register, you can try swapping out the swiper with the other workstation's swiper. If the problem goes away, you have further verified the problem with the swiper.
    b. Manual entry does not work. If the manual entry does not work, then you can also try manual entry in PCCharge. If manual entry does not work in PCCharge, then you should call your processor to see if there is an issue with your account and the card type you are trying to process.

    3. Determine whether there is a processor problem. Call your processor to see if they can help you with the configuration of your account or the type card you are trying to process. They should be able to see if the cards are hitting the system and the best course of action if they are not.

This is why we typically like the direct intregration we provide. It removes much of the complexity of credit card processing and can provide you with the lowest rates going forward.
