    Reciept Printer Issues

    by ryangeneral » Wed Jul 30, 2008 1:32 pm

Our workstation was recently replaced with a computer running windows Vista, instead of XP. Everything switched over fine except for the reciept printer, which we realized was not compatable. Instead of buying a new printer, we connected the printer (Epson TM-U220PD) with a long cord to a different computer, and shared it on the network. This worked, and reciepts printed fine with each sale.

At the end of the day however, there were problems. We print a summary report tape style via the reciept printer, and we write totals on it and such. When I printed the report, it printed garbage, a long length of it too. I actually had to disconnect the printer to prevent it from wasting all of our reciept paper.

As of right now we are forced to print full sheet summary reports. I am confused as to why sales reciepts would print fine, but others would not. Any suggestions?

We are unable to recreate this problem here. A few things.

    1. Does the tape style closing report get displayed correctly to the screen in the report viewer? Is it displaying correctly?
    2. Can you print any reports across the network from this workstation? Try a simple department report.
    3. Can you print any other documents across the network? Try opening Notepad and printing some simple text to the printer.
    4. Does a windows test print print properly to this printer across the network?
    5. Try to print the receipt across the network after resetting the printer (turn it off and then turn it back on while holding down the feed button).

RetailEdge really is not doing anything too fancy here other than printing a formatted report using the width of the receipt tape so I am not sure what could be going on other than a Windows networking issue. However, let us know what you find.

    1. The report does get displayed correctly, nothing odd here.
    2. No, no reports print right, it just seems to print a garbage of symbols
    3. I just tried this (i typed "hi") and it printed two rows of symbols, about a foot of empty space, and two more different lines of symbols.
    4. A test print doesnt work either, also prints garbage.
    5. Resetting the printer had no effect.

i would also like to note that attempting to print from the other computer (the one it is actually connected to) still doesnt work, the only thing that seems to print correctly is the sales reciepts.
