RetailEdge point of sale software allows you to set up security for every function in the program. It also supports up to 100 different access levels for different users so you can have a pretty high level of control over who has access to which functions.

Many of our customers have single terminals with multiple clerks, so the program will ask for a clerk ID and password at the beginning of each sale or other function accessed. This is because we have no way to know whether an employee is the same employee that accessed the function last time and to leave an employee logged in would be a security risk.

For customers who do have a more dedicated terminal/workstation approach to their business, you can do a few things to minimize the impact of having to log in each time.

1. Consider turning Sales Screen Action Levels to 0. If security is turned on, set the User Level for Sales Screen functions to 0. This will save time by not having the Clerk not have to enter a password for each sale.

2. If you don't need clerk tracking, uncheck this option in the security settings. This combined with the security levels set to 0 in item 1, will require

3. Make clerk IDs and passwords numeric only. That way clerks or employees can use the numeric keypad on the keyboard rather than hunting around for letters on the QWERTY section of the keyboard. This will significantly speed up the process at the time of sale.

4. Consider a System Password for the Computer. Then you can control who is logged on to the system and can do security at the System Level.

Combinations of these options should give you the security flexibility you need while maintaining performance.
