    consolidating two standalone installations

    by EdgyUser » Tue May 09, 2006 11:51 pm

I have 2 store locations where retialedge has been running independently (the secondary location had 7.5 and has just now been updated to 8.0).

I want the secondary location to sync up with the primary location now, but still be tracked independently - as its own store. The secondary location has retailedge 8.0 now installed (as a server/workstation so that I could import the old 7.5 data into this location while only connected to 127.0.0.1), and both just got the 8.0.8 update.

I've yet to connect the secondary computer to the primary store location for fear of any problems that might mess up its database, and wanted to make sure there was nothing I was missing that could cause a problem. So I have two independent (with some overlap: customers, inventory, etc... but not sales) data records, and want them consolidated now.

Do I need to "create a new location/store" (manual p.19) or workstation first at the primary location, or since both are setup as servers with independent location information, will they consolidate automatically once I connect the secondary to the primary location? Anything else before I take this (hopefully) last step?

    Thanks.

    Multi-Store Installation Issues

To run RetailEdge for a true multi-location business (multiple physical locations with different sales histories with consolidated inventory and customers) you will need to run RECON. RECON is the multi-location synchronization engine that will synchronize all your data from multiple locations.

We manually install RECON from our offices so that we can ensure that the configuration is done properly. A typical installation process that converts a multi-location businesses would be done as follows:

    1. Convert one location from 7.5 to 8.0.
    2. Purchase RECON and required versions of RetailEdge for your secondary location if you have not already done so.
    3. Allow us access to your server computers at both locations through the routers and/or firewalls.
    4. We will create the new location for you in 8.0 at the first location and then convert/merge your 7.5 data at the new location with your 8.0 data at the first location. The merging process checks for duplicate inventory items (based on stock numbers) and customers (based on first name, last name, street information) in the 7.5 data at the second location and merges this information so that the inventory and customers don't get duplicated but the sales for the secondary location remains separate.

You should call our sales department to discuss this further if you have any more questions.
