We sell CO2 tanks, two different sizes. We sell them outright as well as "refills" which are really exchanges (empty tank for a full tank). How would you keep track of that in retail edge 8.0?

A 20# refill cost $25. I tried to create a package that had two items in it. 1) Outright sale of a full tank ($200) and 2) Empty return (which has a quantity of -1 and a cost of $175). If I add this package to the sales screen, the price is "0.00". If I edit the price on the sales screen, I get the crash warning every time. If you edit the price in Inventory->Packages, I get the crash warning every time.

Before all this, we just had two codes for each item, but then inventory wasn't tracked correctly.

You should be able to setup a package with one item being negative and one being positive to do what you want for the package exchange. Set up the package as based on item pricing. Also setup the package Receipt Printing Method to be one line. This will then show up on the customers receipt with only the package price ($25) and the description (Exchange). Then when you enter the items you will be able to set the unit price of each item. The first should be $200 and then $175 on the negative item.

If you are getting an error then you can e-mail us a copy of the top line out of the errorlog.txt file located in the RetailEdge 8.0 installation folder.

Strangely, I have made this change and it doesn't work! I have two packages like this. One of them works but for some reason always displays both items, even though the radial button is on "One Line". The other one always has a 0.00 price, and if you edit the price you get the "Error" dialog asking to shutdown.

Maybe you could check out our database?
