We understand the need for flexibility on the receipt. However, the item ID is a value that is usually a 6 character number or less and this allows a clerk when returning an item to quickly type this value on the sales screen to return it. This would be opposed to a manufacturer's or vendor code that can be as long as 50 characters and can have letters, dashes and numbers in it making it take more time to enter the item on to the sale for the return. Many customers don't want to show their manufacturer's item number on the receipt because they don't want customers/stores/competitors to have this information.
On the flip side this might be more useful for some businesses. There have been a number of requests to be able to modify the receipt to show certain information on the receipt (SKU only, Item Number Only, etc). There are many pieces of information that you can add or remove from your receipt through the Advanced Receipt Options. However, RetailEdge does not currently allow this one and it is in the list of future suggestions to be added to the program.
