    Dongle Problem Solutions

The dongles that we use for licensing rarely ever fail and the advantages far out weigh the downsides. More discussion about this can be found here:

    http://www.retailedge.com/phpBB/viewtop ... ngle#p2016

The true failure rate of these keys are very low. However if a dongle appears to be failing here are somethings to check first.

    1. Does the problem move with the USB port? Try moving the dongle to another USB port. We have found many times it is the USB port that is "failing".

    2. Does the problem move with the computer? Try moving the dongle to another computer. Many times it is the computer that is having problems with the USB ports.

    3. Does the problem move with the Dongle? If you have another dongle, move the dongle that works to the computer that does not work and see if it starts working.

    4. Check the contacts on the end of dongle. We have seen in rare instances if a dongle is moved a number of times, then the contacts can be worn down. Another thing (last resort and only after 1-3 do not work) to try is crimping the end of the dongle to ensure good contact with the USB port. We have had some success with this if all other options have failed.

After each move, you should restart RetailEdge. Retailedge will only check the dongle status on startup.

If the dongle seems to be shutting down periodically, try going into System Properties (HotKey=Windows key and Pause/Break)- Hardware - Device Manager, scroll down
to the bottom and hit the + in front of Universal Serial Bus Controllers and edit each USB Root Hub going to the Power
Management Tab and removing the check in front of the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" checkbox.
