OPOS..... What a great standard. Easy for the programmer not easy for the end users.

Anyway, first you need to setup the device(s) in through the metrologic MetrOPOS administrator.

Once this is done, you will be able to test that the devices are working through the OPOS Driver. Once you are sure that the devices are working, you can setup the scale/scanner by doing the following:

    1. Modify the workstation you are on by choosing Workstations from the Tools|Settings menu item and selecting your Workstation from the list and pressing the Modify button.

    2. Then press the Scale Tab.

    3. Set the OPOS ID to OPOS.Scale.

    4. Set the OPOS Name to the name of the Scale Name/Profile Name set in the Driver.

If you are also using a scanner, you should probably have gotten a scanner/scale that uses a USB keyboard wedge interface. This is the the simplest to troubleshoot. But if you did not the scanner setup should be the same as above.

The OPOS scale settings you provided really helps. Retailedge can read the scale without any problems.
Unfortunately, after a few hours of fiddling with the unit, I found out the model we have doesn't support USB. So this prompt me to ask this question. Where do I go to set up the OPOS scanner in Retailedge ?. As an FYI, the unit we have comes with a single-cable kit.

Good to hear the OPOS scale worked for you.

That is a problem. Currently RetailEdge only works with a keyboard wedge scanner. This type of scanner is the easiest to use for most of our customers and works right out of the box. Scanning works wherever the cursor is flashing. Since there have been these types of scanners since the beginning of time, we have not done anything in the program to work with any other type of scanner (serial, OPOS, etc.)

That being said if you can setup the OPOS driver so that it gets the scanner to emulate a keyboard wedge through the OPOS driver, then you are all set. You should see if you can either do this or get a different cabling for that scanner/scale.

When we sell these scanner/scales it is with a dual cable interface. This allows the scanner to essentially to be a separate keyboard wedge device more or less separate from the scale. This avoids having our customers face the challenges you are facing.

OPOS setup for Metrologic MS2300 Series StratosH Scale

by RetailEdge Moderator » Mon Jan 26, 2009 10:49 am

A couple of additional items regarding setting up the Metrologic MS2300 scales.

    1. The scale needs to be a dual cable scale. The Scale is RS232 and the Scanner is USB. The scale needs to be configured to work properly with this configuration and does not work this way out of the box. There is a document that is located at ftp://ftp.highmeadow.com/pub/Support/MS ... _EPOS2.pdf. To configure the scale you should:

    a. Scan the EPOS Protocol barcode on Page 3 of this document and then Scan the Save Data barcode.
    b. Scan the FS USB Keybd Intern barcode on Page 5 then test the scanner in Notepad.

    2. The naming of the OPOS ID and the OPOS Name need to match what is in the OPOS Driver. The Device Class (Scale) is used in the OPOS ID prefaced with OPOS. (OPOS.Scale). The Metrologic Profile Name should match the OPOS Name in RetailEdge or MetScale2 In the screenshots below. You can name it whatever you want. The rest of the profile settings you can see int the screenshots.

After you have done this you should be able to run a Detailed Test in the Metrologic OPOS Administrator. You would Open, Claim and Enable the scale. You should then be able to Read a weight by pressing the Read Weight button. If there is nothing on the scale you will get a Timeout value. If you can't get the scale setup at this point, you should call Metrologic (Honeywell) technical support.

To make sure that the scale and scanner work in RetailEdge, you should:

    1. Enter an item into the RetailEdge POS sales screen. Then press the Scale button (or F12). RetailEdge will then attempt to communicate with the scale and will read the weight. You can have this work more automatically if you Check Sales Screen: Automatically Use Scale checkbox on the Miscellaneous tab of the inventory editor when creating an item.

    2. If you get an errror code 104 error, you should check which version of RetailEdge you are using. This scale does not support a Async Mode (Asynchronous communication). RetailEdge prior to Version 8.1.3 was trying to turn off the Async mode and the Metrologic driver did not allow turning it off if it is already off.

OPOS setup for Metrologic MS2300 and 24XX Scales on Windows

by RetailEdge Moderator » Tue Jul 29, 2014 2:29 pm

On Windows 8 the MetrOPOS utility does not properly handle non-admin users currently. So in order to setup the OPOS drivers you must setup the Scale as a normal user, then setup the scale as a admin (right click the utility and Run as Administrator).

Then you will need to run RetailEdge as an Admin as well. You can set this up in the Icon Properties.

    Hope this helps.
