RetailEdge can do units of measurement only for units that we are approved for by our NTEP (National Conference of Weights and Measures) Certification. So that means, grams, lbs and kilograms.
Typically these are automatically added to the sale when a scale is attached to the point of sale machine. However, we also support Manually Weighed Items. This will also put the units in (grams, lbs and kilograms) and will state on the receipt that it is a manually weighed item (MAN/WT). This can be useful for items that have been weighed prior to being brought up to the counter.
The problem is actually that there is not usually enough room on the tape style receipts to put this type of information and a meaningful description. You can make it look like this information is part of the receipt if you prepend your descriptions with the units if you really need to. For instance. If you normally have an item for coffee (say Hawaiian Kona) you could have the description be BAG Hawaiian Kona. So then the receipt will look something like:
2 BAG Hawaiian Kona $50.00
This is actually similar to what we do programatically for the weighed items above.
